Grand Tour of Sasso San Gottardo

High atop the Gotthard Pass hides a unique place of experience: the Sasso San Gottardo. The imposing fortress from World War II has been transformed into a modern museum, impressively bridging the past and present. Inside the historic facility, interactive exhibitions await you on the themes of the Alps, energy, climate, and history – including the Wunderkammer, the Crystal Cavern with its giant quartz crystals, an impressive light show about the Gotthard watershed, as well as exhibitions about Goethe, General Guisan, and the Cold War. A highlight is the ride with the underground Metro del Sasso, which takes you deep into the heart of the fortress. There, you will discover original troop accommodations, ammunition depots, gun positions, and a breathtaking panoramic view from the terrace.
