Concert Hall

Much attention to detail

The construction of the Andermatt Concert Hall has an unusual backstory. During construction, the project was changed from a subterranean congress hall to a modern concert hall, prompting the design to undergo a fundamental modification. This decision by the investor Samih Sawiris brought construction to a halt on short notice. The rectangular block was elevated and in part opened up like a showcase. Despite the last-minute change, the Concert Hall was able to be completed in 2019. With the inauguration and the concert by the Berlin Philharmonic, a dream came true for Samih Sawiris. As a student in Berlin, he lived just 100 metres from the Philharmonie and enjoyed countless concerts by the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Without his passion and enthusiasm for classical music, the Concert Hall would never have been realised. It is impressive how he became personally involved in the realisation and design of Andermatt Reuss and thus put a stamp on the character of the new village quarter in Andermatt.

The Andermatt Concert Hall was designed by Studio Seilern Architects under the direction of Christina Seilern. The auditorium provides an intimate atmosphere and features an unusually flexible stage. Kahle Acoustics and dUCKS scéno, who were responsible for the acoustics and the auditorium design, also designed the Philharmonie de Paris.

Artistic diversity

Not only is the Concert Hall in Andermatt Reuss well suited for classical concerts, it can also host all manner of events: from comedy nights and film screenings to congresses and gala dinners. A major concern for the organisers is also that the various events and concerts draw a variety of target groups to Andermatt so that the entire population can benefit from the Concert Hall.
