The pass road through the quiet Bedretto Valley into the Upper Valais was only built in 1969. The well-developed Nufenen Pass is the second highest Swiss Alpine pass after the Umbrail. The cycle route starts in Airolo in the canton of Ticino. You cycle through the idyllic Bedretto Valley past dense fir forests and lush meadows along the Nufenen Pass road. The winding pass road to the top of the pass impresses with its breathtaking mountain scenery. Once at the top, racing cyclists can enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of snow-covered mountains. Not only racing cyclists appreciate the varied nature in the Bedretto Valley, ibexes also clearly feel at home here.
From the top of the Nufenen Pass at 2,478 m above sea level, the route descends into the canton of Valais to Ulrichen. Here, too, you can enjoy a great view while feeling the cool breeze.
