"From the theory of juices to modern medicine"

Reading by Martin Tomaschett Dr. Martin Tomaschett is a specialist in general internal medicine in Trun and author of the book "Von der Säftelehre zur modernen Medizin 1850-2020", in which he describes the medical transformation of a Grisons country doctor's practice using traditional medical histories from Trun - in an easily understandable way and with as few technical terms as possible. Based on the three biographies of Cristian Luregn Decurtins (practising country doctor from 1847-1874), Pius Tomaschett (1953-1992) and Martin Tomaschett (since 1992), he analyzes the changes in everyday practice, the diagnostic and therapeutic means, the level of knowledge of the doctors in Trun, how they dealt with medical innovations and the influence of the large clinics on the peripheral practices. It provides an insight into the everyday working lives of three doctors from three different eras. During this time, the basic understanding of medicine changed from the ancient theory of humors to modern scientific medicine. The author analyzes and comments on the surviving medical histories from today's medical perspective, drawing on the experience of his 30 years in practice.
