St Peter’s House

Description

St Peter’s Chapel in Andermatt was first mentioned in 1448. It was dedicated to the Apostle Peter and served as a place of worship for many years. Over time, the chapel was extended and renovated on several occasions, and was also rebuilt following a village fire in 1766. With the political changes around 1800, the chapel lost its original function. It was sold and initially used as a cheese store, later converted into a residential house.

Today, the building is still clearly recognisable from the outside as a former chapel. With a little attention, the original features, such as the roof and the curve of the former choir, can still be discerned. Inside, too, individual historical elements have been preserved, including an old holy water font.
