Description
61st Solothurn Film Festival, “The Narrative”: The story of the banker who lost billions. The documentary “The Narrative” profiles former banker Kweku Adoboli, who was responsible for one of UBS’s biggest scandals. The word “scapegoat” is never explicitly mentioned. Kweku Adoboli—who could be described as our modern-day Hans im Glück—never questions his own responsibility and (shared) guilt for the billion-dollar loss that UBS incurred in 2011. In “The Narrative,” filmmakers Martin Schilt and Bernard Weber examine the story behind Adoboli’s conviction. Not only his legal conviction for fraud in court, but also the narrative of the events as portrayed by the media, as well as by UBS lawyers, colleagues, and superiors, provides much food for thought. We’ll be discussing the film with its director.
