Broom tying course with Daniel Hepenstrick

Description
Functional and aesthetic brooms are created through the traditional interplay of natural materials and craft techniques. On the first day, we weave traditional hand brooms from jointly collected pipe grass, on the second day we explore broom binding with birch twigs. Day 1 9 am: Course starts at the medelina. Bus trip to Academia Vivian. Excursion to get to know pipe grass and its habitat. Collecting pipe grass. Weaving of hand brooms using the Uri and Habkern techniques at Academia Vivian. Return journey by bus or individually on foot (arrival at the medelina around 5 p.m.). Optional evening program in the medelina from 8 pm: overview of worldwide techniques and local natural materials for broom making. Day 2 9 am: Meeting point in the medelina. Excursion to get to know the birch tree and its habitat. Possibly collecting fresh birch twigs. Introduction to the workshop luvratori medelin and the tools for brushwood broom binding. Broom tying with dried birch brushwood from the Curaglia forests. 5 p.m.: End of the course. Course leader Daniel Hepenstrick is a botanist and self-taught broom maker www.besenbinden.ch. Where nature and culture merge, Dani's heart beats faster. He experiences joy and relaxation when making brooms. Course location The course takes place in and around Curaglia.
Price Information
CHF 390 plus CHF 40 material costs. Members of the uniun medelina association receive a CHF 40 discount on the course costs.
