Description

The Furka Steam Railway operates a licensed rail connection along a nearly 18-kilometer stretch between Realp in the Canton of Uri and Oberwald in the Canton of Valais. The route traverses a largely untouched, often difficult-to-access part of the Swiss Alps, passing by wild gorges and steep mountain slopes, reaching altitudes of over 2,000 meters above sea level. On the meter-gauge cogwheel track, historical locomotives and carriages are in use, lovingly restored and made operational again by volunteers, including some vehicles that are over 100 years old.
