Description

The tour starts in Andermatt with the first ascent to the Oberalp Pass. The gradient is moderate (approx. 6% on average) and the surface is excellent - perfect for rolling in. Once at the top, there is a fantastic view of the lighthouse, which symbolically marks the source of the Rhine. The descent to Disentis is fast and well developed. From Disentis, the long but pleasant climb to the Lukmanier Pass begins. With an average gradient of 5-6%, it is the gentlest of the four passes, but the headwind can often be an additional challenge here. Once at the top, the view of the Ticino mountains opens up before the wonderful descent to Biasca begins. This is long and flowing, with some fast bends that are great fun. Please note: traffic can be heavier here in the summer months. From Biasca, the long route up into Valais begins. Initially flat to Airolo, it is then very steep up to the Nufenen Pass. With ramps of up to 13% and an average gradient of 8-9%, it is the most grueling climb of the tour. The last few kilometers are high alpine and often windy. At the top, there is a breathtaking view of the glaciers of the Valais Alps. The descent to Ulrichen is challenging, with several tight hairpin bends and a sometimes rough surface. The last climb of the day awaits in Ulrichen: the Furka Pass. The western side has a constantly steep gradient of around 7-8%, but the view of the hairpin bends and the Rhone glacier makes up for the effort. Once at the top, the view of the Gotthard massif is simply spectacular. The descent back to Andermatt is fast, but with lots of tight bends - you need to choose your lines carefully here.
