Trekking Lukmanierpass - Altanca
Route Information
Best Time of Year
Description
This tour is not part of the signposted snowshoe trail network. We are in open terrain where we have to assess the dangers ourselves.
We start early! From the parking lot in Casaccia we follow the many tracks south and we cross the Brenno on a wooden bridge. Through a pine forest peppered with very gnarled and old specimens, we go up to the Stabbio Nuovo and Lareccio Alps. We hike past the alpine huts into the Rondadoira valley, which soon becomes more open and wider and we can soon see as far as the Passo del sole. Once at the top, we have the Val Piora at our feet on the other side and we have a good overview of the second part of our tour.
It mostly goes downhill, sometimes gentler, sometimes steeper and there are also small counter climbs in between. A long way before Lake Ritom we head towards the hill of Pian Giübin, to the left of the lake. This is followed by a short descent to Fontanella, after which we follow the summer path to the small Costone pass. Every now and then we find a hiking trail marker. Through the small and picturesque valley of Pinett we reach the dam. Depending on the snow conditions, we follow the summer path down to Altanca.
Last return option: from Altanca by post bus at 4:15 p.m. / from Ambri by train at 4:49 p.m
