Fireplace Holzrieri/Schipfenberg

The Geissberg avalanche terrifies the locals in Gurtnellen, as it thunders down into the valley with great force every few years and often buries the railway line and roads. The avalanche defences of the last 60 years are visible along the Geissberg theme trail. At Schipfenberg, about an hour from Gurtnellen-Dorf, is the idyllic Holzrieri/Schipfenberg rest area with a fireplace and fountain. From here you have an impressive view of the upper Reuss valley, Fellital and Maderanertal.
