Description
Day 1: From Caischavedra, the route leads us through a small raised bog and through alpine rose bushes to Lag Serein, a clear and blue eye amidst green alpine meadows. From here we switch to a blue-white marked alpine hiking trail. The landscape becomes rockier and the last meters to the Brunnipass require all our strength and concentration. We need to be free from dizziness when we climb down on the other side, clinging to ropes and over airy ladders to the glacier. We are glad to have our ice axe, which we use to make steps on the bare glacier from time to time. The hut keeper’s markings otherwise safely guide us over the mostly firn-covered glacier to the Cavardiras hut.
Day 2: We continue our hike and descend eastwards into the Val Cavardiras. The valley is still mountainous, rocky and barren in the first part, but soon shows green patches and alpine meadows. When crossing from Val Cavardiras into Val Russein, we reach a wide natural road. Below the Barcuns reservoir, we must not miss the turnoff to Cumpadials and Sumvitg. This way, we reach the village and the train station after about 40 minutes. The train takes us back to Disentis.
