Description
The Greina - high plateau at 2200 m above sea level is a barren mountain landscape with widely branched watercourses - what luck that the power plant plans of the 20th century failed!
Day 1: We start our route in Runcahez and hike partly through forest and along the stream into the valley. Soon the path starts to ascend and before it becomes really steep, we take a break at the beautiful stream landscape with waterfalls and pools. Then we tackle the switchbacks under our hiking boots until we reach the ridge of Crest La Greina. We need to be a bit sure-footed, but ropes are installed at some points to hold on to. Soon we see the Terri hut and look back into the valley at our entire ascent route with Tödli in the background.
Day 2: We circle the Muot la Greina so that we reach the lower, flat part of the plateau with the meandering brook, gravel banks and the wet meadows. The further we approach Crap la Crusch, the more undulating the landscape becomes. Water collects in the depressions and forms small lakes, partly framed by cotton grass. Gentian, toadflax and countless other alpine flowers decorate the meadows.
After the stone with the cross, the "Crap la Crusch", we are in the canton of Ticino. We hike southwards along the edge of a large wetland. Later we add a stone cairn colony with its own creation.
From the Capanna Motterascio we have a magnificent view into the Valle Garzora and onto the Lago Luzzone. Pizzo Casinello and Pizzo Cassimoi with its eternal snow are the most striking peaks in the mountain panorama.
The descent from the hut leads in the upper part over alpine pastures, later through a sparse larch forest. A final highlight is the path along the lake, which forms a turquoise fjord in the back part. From the Alpe Garzott we hike on a forest road to the reservoir. We just have to get through the approx. 800-meter-long tunnel to the dam. However, it is lit.
Now we have to catch the last bus from Ghirone to Olivone so that we still have a connection back via the Lukmanier Pass to Disentis and Sumvitg. (16:14) See timetable!
