Description

The route starts in Altdorf and leads up to Bürglen. From there it goes through the beautiful Schächental. Road cyclists reach the pass height via the pass road passing lush green meadows and steep rock faces. The view of the surrounding mountain range is definitely worth it. From the pass height, the Klausenpass road continues to the Urnerboden, the largest Swiss alpine pasture with up to 1200 cows and a mountain cheese dairy. Far beyond the Swiss borders, the legendary Klausen races made a name for themselves in the 1920s and 1930s. Cars and motorcycles tackled the 21.5 km long route of Europe's most difficult hill climb race at the time on gravel roads and at high speed. From Urnerboden, the winding Klausen road continues down into the canton of Glarus, to Linthal.
