Description

This trail running loop starting and ending in Disentis offers a completely new perspective on the valley. At some parts of the route, only a few ancient trail markers remain, and some digital maps no longer even show the paths to Munt Sut. However, the risk of getting lost is still low.

Starting in Disentis, the route first descends to the Rhine, then follows our track with short ascents and descents on the partly historic road to Madernal – history enthusiasts will appreciate a look at the “Faux Chalet” of the Russein Swiss military checkpoint, a flank position of the Stalusa fortress. Upon reaching the paved road to Pardomat, we take it for a short climb up to the cantonal road, which we follow for 200 meters in the direction of Disentis until a road turns right into the forest. Here begins the actual ascent, first following a road and from point 1331 then taking a varied trail towards Munt Sut. The alpine farmsteads there are supplied by a material cableway from the opposite side of Val Lumpegna and are not accessible by car. Accordingly, it is quiet and pristine up there – and the unique panoramic view over the upper Surselva definitely merits a rest.

A few meters further, the trail merges into a newly upgraded road that leads us through Val Lumpegna to Runfoppa Su. If one hasn’t already switched here to the (steep!) hiking trail to Runfoppa Sut, one should leave the road from point 1462. The hiking trail into Val Sogn Placi is not only beautiful but also easy to walk and only steep at the beginning. The return goes through the hamlet Faltscharidas and past the chapel Sogn Placi.
