Description

We buy a ski touring ticket at the mountain railways, which allows us to comfortably be transported up to an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. At the end of the ski lift, some unrest often arises because everyone wants to be the first to reach the crossing into the Brunni Valley. The rock ridge is a challenge and there can sometimes be a bottleneck. Here you have to pack your skis and scramble up iron steps with a lot of concentration. Depending on the snow amount, you walk a few meters further on the gap, then we already draw the first tracks in the powder snow down to the glacier. From here, we ascend in wide switchbacks towards the Oberalpstock, the last section can be challenging. At the summit cross, we find ourselves in good company with the Tödi and to the north lies the Urnerland at our feet.

The first part of the descent can sometimes also be just a slide. Below the summit, we move to the starting point for the descent over the Staldenfirn. The Maderanertal lies fantastically deep below us and incredible slopes await us. Shortly before the Stössi Alp, we get into alder bushes and ditches, so we have to search a bit for the best route. Once arrived at the bottom, we look back and it is incredible to see where we have come down from. The following section on the alpine road to the valley station of the Golzern cableway can be done fast depending on snow quality. It goes, except for a small section, more or less gently downhill.

Post buses run from the Golzern cableway to Amsteg. However, there is also a taxi service: www.uritaxi.ch
