Description

We set our start time according to the opening hours of the Lukmanier Pass, preferably early in spring. At the end of the lake, the first challenge already awaits us. In winter, the bridge over the Rein da Medel is removed and we have to be careful not to get our feet wet. We quickly gain altitude in regular hairpin turns and look forward to the first sun rays that reach us approximately at the height of Alp Scaione. Passing below Piz Scaio, through dips and over gentle hills, we reach the last steep section up to the ski depot, which is manageable with short hairpin turns. A final rocky section without skis follows, then we are at the top! On the narrow summit, we have a free view in all directions. The most striking points are the Santa Maria Reservoir at our feet and the slightly higher Scopi with the military transmission facilities.

The descent along the ascent route is pure pleasure, with powder or firn. In spring, it quickly becomes muddy if you haven't started early enough. At the height of the lake, we briefly put our skins on again.

Tip: Since the Lukmanier Pass is not accessible by public transport in winter, a call bus is available on request:
