Description
On a pretty, stone-lined path we hike to the church Sontga Gada, which dates from the 12th century. Saint Agatha is the patron saint of hikers and bridges, and visiting the church was the last opportunity for pack carriers and traders to pray for a safe passage. Today we can effortlessly cross the gorge to Mompé Medel thanks to the new suspension bridge. Between the houses and partly on stairs, we then descend on the southern side to the road, which has only connected the village by tunnel with the Lukmanier road since 1971. On the old access road, we reach the turnoff to Caschlatsch. Very little remains of the former castle and watchtower. Instead, a walkable wooden tower now rises on a hill with a wonderful view of the Disentis monastery. The return route takes us along the Rhine to the historic bridge in Cuflons, and after a short climb, we reach Sontga Gada again.
Access to the wooden tower is only possible in the snow-free period.
