The High Triple: Susten - Grimsel - Furka
Route Information
Best Time of Year
Description
The route starts with a first highlight: from Andermatt, it leads through the impressive Schöllenen Gorge down to Wassen - past steep rock faces, the rushing Reuss and the legendary Devil's Bridge. The first ascent follows through the Meiental up to the Susten Pass. The view of the Steingletscher glacier makes every bend worthwhile. Once at the top, a panoramic descent to Innertkirchen awaits. After a short flat section, the second ascent begins: bend by bend, the route climbs through wooded terrain up to the Grimsel Pass. The Grimselsee lake invites you to pause for a moment and, with a bit of luck, you might spot marmots between the rocks. Pass two out of three is done! In Gletsch, the final ascent to the Furka Pass follows - a classic Alpine pass. The landscape is rough, barren and impressive. Shortly before the top of the pass, you pass the iconic Hotel Belvédère. After the top of the pass, sweeping views of the Ursern Valley open up. The famous James Bond curve from the film Goldfinger awaits in one of the following hairpin bends. From here, the route leads rapidly downhill via Realp and the valley floor of the Ursern Valley back to Andermatt.
