Andermatt Golf Course

Important information

The Andermatt Golf Course is part of the OK:GO initiative. People with limited mobility can find detailed information on the accessibility of the golf course here.

Description

The Andermatt Golf Course covers around 1.3 million square metres and is more than six kilometres long. The 18-hole course meets international tournament standards and was designed by renowned golf architect Kurt Rossknecht. Alpine elements such as rock formations, flower meadows, streams and lakes give the course a special atmosphere. The wind, which often blows through the Ursern Valley, presents an additional sporting challenge and enriches the game of golf.

The modern clubhouse offers golfers a wide range of amenities, including changing rooms, a large sun terrace, a lounge for relaxation and a restaurant for before or after the game. The Andermatt Golf Course team is also happy to assist tournament organisers and sponsors with the organisation of invitation tournaments.

In addition to the 18-hole course in Andermatt, the region also has three other 9-hole golf courses in Realp (Uri), Sedrun (Graubünden) and Obergesteln (Valais), which together offer a varied range of golfing opportunities in the Alps.

Nature and biodiversity

The golf course is located in the middle of a valuable natural area. During the planning stage, particular emphasis was placed on protecting plants and animals around the course and in the adjacent ‘Bäz’ nature reserve.

Monitoring by the Sempach Bird Observatory shows that a remarkable diversity of species has developed here. In 2019, 36 breeding bird species with a total of 155 territories were recorded. These include rare species such as the whinchat, which depends on late-mown meadows and is on the red list of endangered bird species.

The golf course's water bodies also provide important habitats. Studies have revealed a surprisingly large variety of dragonflies, with twelve different species, including endangered species such as the black darter and the common moorland hawker. The results show that the measures to promote biodiversity around the golf course are proving successful.
