Chapel and rectory of St Karl
Description
TranslatorThe rectory and the chapel of St. Charles were built in 1721 in the upper part of the village of Hospental and extensively renovated in 2002/03. Today they are in excellent condition. The chapel impresses with ceiling paintings and stone carvings made from local soapstone on the southern windows. An inscription on the chapel refers to its special location: ‘Here the path divides, O friend, where are you going? Will you go down to eternal Rome? Down to holy Cologne, to the German Rhine, westwards far into Franconia?’ The parsonage once served as a residence for the priest and as a refuge for people in need.
