Description

Day 1: We start in Sedrun with packed snowshoes and hike to the year-round inhabited hamlet Cavorgia. On a marked snowshoe trail, it goes on a snow-covered road through a wildlife sanctuary; the incline is moderate. In Stagias, we get a view into the neighboring valley Val Medel with the village Curaglia, located at the foot of a mighty mountain range. We continue on the path to Alp Pazzola, the highest point of the tour. No tree or shrub blocks the deep view down to Sedrun and Disentis. At the alpine huts, we find a sheltered spot for a long rest. We hike back to Stagias on the same route, then we are allowed to cross the open field to Mutschnengia and make our own track in the snow. Tired and satisfied, we reach the Hotel Cuntera, where we are warmly welcomed. (Reservation: info@hotel-cuntera.ch)

Day 2: We wear the snowshoes only briefly until we reach the trail that leads us on the historic Lukmanier pass route to Mompé Medel, a small Walser settlement overlooking Disentis. From winter 2024/25, a new, spectacular suspension bridge will cross the Rhine here, saving us many vertical meters up and down. At the chapel Sontga Gada, we reach the winter hiking path, which we follow to Disentis. We have booked an overnight stay at the Disentis monastery and look forward to this extraordinary lodging. Reservation: gastbruder@kloster-disentis.ch

Day 3: We start again with packed snowshoes over quarter paths to Segnas. At the upper end of the village, the trail begins and leads us to the picturesque Alp Prau Sura. But there is still the ascent to the viewpoint Plaung Grond/**Bostg.** The end point is located slightly below the actual summit, but the view of mountain and valley is still impressive. The descent to Mompé Tujetsch is very easy. Those who wish can take the train to Sedrun for the rest of the tour, but we put on our snowshoes and hike back to Sedrun on the winter hiking trail.

A wonderful winter route on foot is concluded.
