Acquacalda - Alp Dötra

This route is not part of the signposted snowshoe trail network. We are in open terrain where we must assess the dangers ourselves.

Important: Do not take the normal summer path via Croce Portera! Avalanche blasting.

After reaching the clearly visible junction on the pass road, we put on the snowshoes.

We are in the middle of a fairy tale forest; at times, the snow-covered fir branches almost hang in our faces, sometimes small clearings open up. As soon as we leave the forest, we walk through hilly, open terrain and soon reach the highest point. In the distance, we can already see our destination, the houses of Dötra. It now goes slightly downhill, always with a view of the Rheinwaldhorn.

At Grotto Dötra we stop in. We listen to lively conversations in the Ticino dialect and treat ourselves to a Boccalino or a small glass of red wine with a dried meat platter.

Before the sun gets too low, we make our way back and are now glad for the beautiful trail we have made ourselves. But if only we had drunk tea!
