Description

We start the hike at the lighthouse on the Oberalp Pass. On the first section, up to the fork at point 2056, we are accompanied by the Tomasee hiking birds, then by those heading to the Maighel hut. Below the hut, however, we turn right towards the Lolen Pass, which in Romansh language is called Pass Tagliola.

The Lolen Pass is a delight. The valley gently slopes westward. The stream, which is initially only a trickle, gathers more water and forms mossy areas and small ponds. We reach the first valley level and leave the stream course to descend in a curve to an alp. From the second valley level, a zigzag path leads down into the Unteralp valley. We are sent back and forth 48 times until we reach the valley floor.

On a forest road, we continue our hike towards the Vermigel hut. However, we save ourselves the ascent to the hut and switch beforehand to the hiking trail to the Maighel Pass. The climb resumes. We overcome approximately 500 vertical meters at a leisurely pace. On hot days, a swim in the lake before the Maighel Pass is a tempting reward.

At Piogn Crap we allow ourselves a little thrill. Here we can cross the wild Rein da Maighels in one step, as the water squeezes through a narrow rock crevice. We see the Maighel hut ahead and gladly accept a five-minute climb to enjoy a beer on the terrace. From the hut, we hike back to the Oberalp Pass.
