Description

We start the excursion with a ride on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway to Tschamut, the first village on the young Rhine. Here we start our hike, first down to Tschamut, then further to the valley floor, past the golf course to Selva. It is worthwhile to make a small stop at the golf course restaurant.

The village of Selva has a special history. It was repeatedly threatened by avalanches in winter and in 1949 all the houses, except one, burned down completely. This event triggered an unprecedented relief action throughout Switzerland and the village was completely rebuilt.

We change to the other side of the Rhine. On a wide and comfortable hiking trail, through forest and over pastures, we reach the playground Fontauna, below Rueras. Great playground equipment makes children's hearts beat faster. A large meadow also allows games with the ball, the brave ones may dare to take a bath in one of the small lakes or even in the brook. In the meantime, we prepare everything we need for a barbecue lunch at one of the fireplaces.

Over a bridge it is not far to the camping restaurant, where we have fine clacé for dessert. On side paths with little traffic and after a short climb up to the level of the road, we return to the starting point Sedrun.
