Description

From Andermatt, the route follows the mountain pass road to Oberalp. Those taking the standard route leave the paved road at the pass summit and descend via the Tiarms Pass through Val Val to Tschamut. From there, the pass road takes you to Surpalits and then to Milez, where you’ll reach a dirt road. This road climbs gently into Val Maighels, where the Maighelshütte is perched on the left side of the slope. Tip: If you prefer, you can take a shortcut by riding directly from the Oberalp Pass to Surpalits instead of going via the Tiarms Pass and Tschamut.

As you pass through Val Maighels, the dirt road gradually turns into a hiking trail; if the snow melts late, you may also encounter isolated snowfields. From the Maighels Pass, the view opens up to mountains such as the Gemsstock, Pizzo Centrale, and the Giübin. Those who aren’t afraid of the cold water can take a dip in the mountain lake. From the Maighels Pass, a steep, challenging descent leads back down the Unteralptal valley to Andermatt.
