Description

From Amsteg, after a short climb, bikers ride along the Gotthard mule track to Meitschligen. From the eastern side of the valley between Gurtnellen and Wassen, you can watch the trains winding their way up the upper Reuss valley over bridges, viaducts and helical tunnels. After Wattingen, you pass under the canopy of St. Joseph's Chapel, which was built in the 18th century. The route continues along a magnificent forest path via Neiselental to Göschenen. Along the steep rock faces of the Schöllenen Gorge and the Urnerloch, the first tunnel in the Alps, you reach the turning point at Andermatt. The return journey leads along the mountain road to Gurtnellen-Dorf. This is followed by an attractive descent along country lanes to Meitschligen, after which the same route leads back to Amsteg.
