Description
Right from the start, we dive into the past as we walk on an old stone-lined path to the church Sontga Gada. A short visit is a must. The frescoes inside the church date from the 15th century and are remarkable. Just behind the church, modern times catch up with us again: a new suspension bridge spans the Hinterrhein over a length of 300 meters and gives us a tingling feeling when we look 100 meters down. On the other side, we ascend to the village of Mompé Medel, which means "located at the foot of the mountain." Above the houses, we follow the old mule track again, which for centuries was the only access to the Lukmanier Pass. Only after the invention of gunpowder was a passage created in the gorge of the Medelser Rhine. We reach Mutschnengia, a small settlement with sunburnt house facades. We encounter a second suspension bridge. It spans the Val Mutschnengia, is smaller, and made of larch wood. In a curve over Pali and over a historic stone bridge over the Medelser Rhine, we conclude the hike in Curaglia. Return to Disentis by PostBus.
