Description

The starting point of this gravel bike tour is Disentis (1129 m above sea level), whose townscape is characterized by the imposing Benedictine monastery. From here, you ride leisurely along the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway, which takes you up and down to Sedrun (1406 m above sea level). From Rueras (1405 m a.s.l.), follow mountain bike route no. 205, which will put your legs to the test with a few steep ramps, but the high alpine panorama makes up for all your efforts. Shortly after Milez Sura (1877 m above sea level), the route turns left towards Tschamut; this detour into the valley to Val Val is highly recommended. The gravel bike ride continues for around ten minutes into the cul-de-sac and the landscape becomes purer with every meter you ride, until you finally feel close to nature at the back of the valley, small and insignificant in the midst of high peaks.

Back at the turn-off to Tschamut, you leave the mountain bike route and tackle the rapid descent. In Tschamut (1643 m above sea level), cross the Oberalppass road and follow mountain bike route no. 1. A short singletrail section takes you to the golf course in Surrein (1531 m above sea level) and from here it's pure gravel fun. The gravel road down the valley to Sedrun (1406 m above sea level) is reminiscent of a rollercoaster. The climb from Surrein (1381 m above sea level) along the Rein da Nalps on mountain bike route no. 1 is strenuous but rewarding in terms of flora and fauna. The traverse through Uaul Cavorgia allows you to take a deep breath before the final ascent to Uaul da Crestas (1631 m above sea level). The descent to Mumpe Medel rewards you with a gigantic view of Disentis. But the tour isn't over yet: mountain bike route no. 1 takes you back to Disentis on a singletrail descent that has it all.
